Welcome To

Vista

Welcome to Vista

The mild climate and gentle, rolling hills are just two of the many reasons people move to Vista. Located approximately 42 miles north of San Diego and seven miles from the ocean, Vista has a population of approximately 96,000. Much of the city has a rural feel and lovely views due to those rolling hills. Vista’s name is quite fitting.

Vista was originally part of several ranchos, one of which was Rancho Buena Vista. In 1882, John Frazier applied to open the post office and gave Vista its name. Vista was incorporated in 1963 and has seen substantial growth over the last 50 years. The mostly rural, farming community that was named “Avocado Capital of the World” in 1948 is now a thriving, growing community that was designated as one of the “30 best places to live in the country” in the 1970s and one of the 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family in 2005.

Vista has a broad range of neighborhoods. In the south, you’ll find the master planned community of Shadowridge and Vista Heights. Shadowridge is built around the 18-hole, championship Shadowridge Golf Club. The established neighborhood of Alta Vista in the eastern section of the city offers lovely views and ranch style homes, and the rural Warmlands area in the north includes luxury homes with panoramic views. There are also neighborhoods that are in unincorporated San Diego County but fall within Vista’s influence. The lovely, rural area commonly called Buena Creek is one of these neighborhoods. “We are only 12 minutes from the beach, but it feels like we live in the country!” - Vista Resident

With origins dating back to the late 1800s, Vista offers an enchanting atmosphere that respects its history while embracing its future. Scoring a 9.1 out of 10 on the annual Best Places Comfort Index, Vista boasts some of the best weather in Southern California. Here, you still enjoy beautiful ocean breezes without the coastal fog, lush greenery and historic ranches. The beach is just a few minutes away. Experience perfect weather year-round while taking in all of the sights that Vista has to offer. Enjoy authentic mediterranean fare at Shak’s Bistro, or take in a show at The Moonlight Amphitheatre. No matter how you choose to spend your time, feeling culturally enriched is a definite.
